State of the Art MPEG-4 Software encoding:
Introduced in 1999, MPEG-4 is the latest standard for video compression. It is generally considered the standard of the future for interactive multimedia, graphics applications, HDTV and High Definition DVD.
Why use MPEG-4 over MPEG-2?
MPEG-4 has several advantages over MPEG-2
-
MAC & PC Editing - Utilizing the WMV format for MPEG-4, the DRS videos are rapidly becoming the easiest and most cross-compatible format to work with. With the advent of Flip4Mac (
http://www.flip4mac.com), MAC users can now use their favorite editing software for creating their presentations.
-
Streaming Technology - MPEG-4 files immediately begin playing as they load, providing significant advantages for presentations and for adding them to web sites. MPEG-2 completely loads before playing, delaying the presentation until the loading is complete.
-
Compression - MPEG-4 compression is much higher than MPEG-2, providing the same quality in less space.
-
PowerPoint - MPEG-4 files integrate easily into Microsoft PowerPoint, simplifying the creation of presentations.
Software Encoding:
The Med X Change DRS Product Line are currently the only digital video recording systems utilizing MPEG-4 software encoding. Other systems use hardware encoding, which requires specialized components in the computer and limits the system to the format these components produce. Upgrading hardware-encoded systems to the latest MPEG-4 standard involves changing the hardware. Our unique software encoding enables us to change with the times and upgrade the compression format as technology changes.
Updating the System:
Med X Change systems are designed to be upgraded in the field. We are continuously working on new features as we gather feedback from our clients. As new versions of the Med X Stream software are developed, our customers can connect their system to the Internet to download the latest update, or Med X Change will provide them with an update CD if they are not able to connect to the Internet.
Large Storage Capacity:
As technology advances, so does our hardware. The standard 200 gigabyte hard drive available in the DRS2 and DRSW, gives up to 85 hours of recording time at the highest quality setting, and up to 213 hours at the lowest setting.
External Storage:
Med X Change realizes that there needs to be storage options other than burning CDs and DVDs. We have added a new feature that allows you to record directly to an external USB hard drive or a USB Pen Drive. The newest USB 2.0 Pen Drives provide up to 4 gigs of storage capacity and we expect them to become affordable in the near future.
Auto Archiving:
This new feature is available in version 2.31 and higher. This feature allows you to setup a remote storage location for backing up and archiving. This service runs in the background with no user action and will not interrupt a recording.
Multiple Operations:
Our advanced burning feature allows a doctor to burn all his cases at one time. This is a great feature for someone who does short back-to-back cases and does not have to create CDs between cases.
Burn Times:
Our new 16x burners can now create a DVD in approximately 10 minutes, whether it is your current operation or from archived files. The DRS Product Line will continue to provide the fastest technology available.
